Contenuto di questo foglio:
1. Cos’è CETILSAN e a cosa serve
CETILSAN contiene il principio attivo cetilpiridinio cloruro che appartiene ad un gruppo di medicinali chiamati antisettici che impediscono o bloccano la crescita dei batteri.
Questo medicinale è indicato come disinfettante della mucosa della bocca e della gola.
Si rivolga al medico se non si sente meglio o se si sente peggio dopo un breve periodo di trattamento.
2. Cosa deve sapere prima di prendere CETILSAN
Non prenda CETILSAN:
- se è allergico al principio attivo o ad uno qualsiasi degli altri componenti di questo medicinale (elencati al paragrafo 6);
- se la persona che deve prendere questo medicinale è un bambino al di sotto dei 12
anni (vedere il paragrafo “Bambini”).
Avvertenze e precauzioni
Si rivolga al medico o al farmacista prima di prendere CETILSAN.
Questo medicinale è indicato solo per uso locale.
Non prenda questo medicinale per molto tempo ed informi il medico se non nota un miglioramento dei sintomi.

Se assume CETILSAN per periodi di tempo prolungati, si possono manifestare reazioni allergiche (fenomeni di sensibilizzazione). In questo caso, sospenda il trattamento e consulti il medico che stabilirà una terapia adeguata.
Bambini
CETILSAN è controindicato nei bambini di età inferiore ai 12 anni, salvo diversa prescrizione del medico.
Altri medicinali e CETILSAN
Informi il medico o il farmacista se sta assumendo, ha recentemente assunto o potrebbe assumere qualsiasi altro medicinale.
Se sta assumendo CETILSAN, non usi altri medicinali antisettici o detergenti della bocca e della gola (cavo orale).
Gravidanza e allattamento
Se è in corso una gravidanza, se sospetta o sta pianificando una gravidanza o se sta allattando con latte materno chieda consiglio al medico o al farmacista prima di prendere questo medicinale.
Se è in stato di gravidanza o sta allattando al seno, prenda questo medicinale solo nei casi di effettiva necessità e sotto il diretto controllo del medico.
Guida di veicoli e utilizzo di macchinari
Questo medicinale non altera la capacità di guidare veicoli o di utilizzare macchinari.
CETILSAN contiene sorbitolo
Questo medicinale contiene 900 mg di sorbitolo per dose. Sorbitolo è una fonte di fruttosio. Se il medico le ha detto che lei (o il bambino) è intollerante ad alcuni zuccheri, o se ha una diagnosi di intolleranza ereditaria al fruttosio, una rara malattia genetica per cui i pazienti non riescono a trasformare il fruttosio, parli con il medico prima che lei (o il bambino) prenda questo medicinale.
3. Come prendere CETILSAN
Prenda questo medicinale seguendo sempre esattamente quanto riportato in questo foglio o le istruzioni del medico o del farmacista. Se ha dubbi consulti il medico o il farmacista.
La dose raccomandata è di 1 pastiglia ogni 3-4 ore, fino ad un massimo di 6 pastiglie al giorno.
Sciolga le pastiglie lentamente in bocca.
Non superi le dosi giornaliere consigliate.
Se prende più CETILSAN di quanto deve
In seguito all’assunzione di una dose eccessiva di questo medicinale si possono manifestare i seguenti sintomi: nausea, vomito, difficoltà a respirare (dispnea), colorazione bluastra della pelle (cianosi), sensazione di soffocamento (asfissia), dovuta alla paralisi dei muscoli respiratori, riduzione dell’attività del cervello (depressione del sistema nervoso centrale), abbassamento della pressione (ipotensione), profondo stato di incoscienza (coma).
Il medico stabilirà la terapia più adatta a lei, in base alla gravità dei sintomi.
In caso di ingestione/assunzione di una quantità eccessiva di questo medicinale, interrompa il trattamento e si rivolga immediatamente al medico o al più vicino ospedale.
Se dimentica di prendere CETILSAN
Non prenda una dose doppia per compensare la dimenticanza della compressa.
Se ha qualsiasi dubbio sull’uso di questo medicinale, si rivolga al medico o al farmacista.
4. Possibili effetti indesiderati
Come tutti i medicinali, questo medicinale può causare effetti indesiderati sebbene non tutte le persone li manifestino.
Si possono verificare i seguenti effetti indesiderati:
Frequenza non nota (la cui frequenza non può essere valutata dai dati disponibili)
- irritazione temporanea delle gengive;
- nausea, vomito e dolore all’addome;
- infiammazione della bocca (stomatite);
- alterazione del gusto;
- lieve cambiamento del colore dei denti;
- irritazione della pelle (dermatite allergica);
- bruciore o irritazione della bocca.

5. Come conservare CETILSAN
Conservi questo medicinale fuori dalla vista e dalla portata dei bambini.
Non prenda questo medicinale dopo la data di scadenza che è riportata sulla scatola dopo “Scade/Expiry date:”.
La data di scadenza si riferisce all’ultimo giorno di quel mese.
Conservare questo medicinale nella confezione originale.
Non getti alcun medicinale nell’acqua di scarico e nei rifiuti domestici. Chieda al farmacista come eliminare i medicinali che non utilizza più. Questo aiuterà a proteggere l’ambiente.
6. Contenuto della confezione e altre informazioni
Cosa contiene CETILSAN
- Il principio attivo è cetilpiridinio cloruro. Ogni pastiglia contiene 3 mg di cetilpiridinio cloruro.
- Gli altri componenti sono: essenza di menta, eucaliptolo, gomma adragante, amido di riso, magnesio stearato, mannitolo, sorbitolo.

What CETILSAN is and what it is used for
Cetilsan contains the active substance cetylpyridinium chloride which is an antiseptic which prevent or block the growth of bacteria.
This medicine is recommended as disinfectant of mouth and throat mucous membranes.
You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a short period of treatment.
2. What you need to know before you take CETILSAN
Do not take CETILSAN:
- if you are allergic to active substance or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- if the patient is a child less than 12 years old, unless unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor (see the paragraph “Children”).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to the doctor or pharmacist before taking CETILSAN.
This medicine is only indicate for local use.
Do not take this medicine for long periods and inform the doctor if you do not perceive an improvement of the symptoms.
If you take CETILSAN for long periods, allergic reactions (sensibilisation phenomena)
could arise. In such case, suspend the treatment and consult the doctor which will estabilish a suitable therapy.
Children
CETILSAN is not intended in children below the age of 12 years, unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor.
Other medicines and CETILSAN
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
If you are taking CETILSAN do not use any other antiseptic or detergent of mouth and throat.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, take this medicine only in case of need and under direct control of a doctor.
Driving and using machines
Cetilsan does not alter the ability to drive or use machinery.
CETILSAN contains sorbitol
This medicine contains 900 mg of sorbitol in each dosage unit. Sorbitol is a souce of fructose. If your Doctor has told you that you (or your child) have an intolerance to some sugars or if you have been dignosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI), a arare genetic disorder in which a person cannot break down fructose, talk to your doctor before you (or your child) take or receive this medicine.
3. How to take CETILSAN
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is 1 lozenge every 3-4 hours, until a maximum of 6 lozenges per day.
Allow the lozenge to dissolve slowly in your mouth.
Do not exceed the indicated doses.
If you take more CETILSAN than you should
In case of intake of an excessive dose of the medicine the following symptoms may appear: nausea, vomiting, difficulty in respiration (dyspnoea), bluish coloration of the skin (cyanosis), feeling of suffocate (asphyxiation) due to paralysis of the respiratory muscles, reduction of brain activity (central nervous system depression), lowering of blood pressure (hypotension) and deep state of incoscience (coma).
The doctor will estabilish the most suitable therapy for you, according the seriousness of the symptoms.
In case of accidental ingestion / assumption of an excessive dose of this medicine suspend the treatment and contact immediately the doctor or the nearest hospital.
If you forget to take CETILSAN
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects could arise:
Unknown frequency (frequency could not be evaluated from available data)
- transient soreness of the gums;
- nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain;
- mouth inflammation (stomatite);
- alteration of taste;
- slight discoloration of the teeth;
- skin irritation (allergic dermatitis);
- sense of burning of the mouth.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the national reporting system. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
5. How to store CETILSAN
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after
“Scade/Expiry date:”. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Store this medicine in its original container.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information
What CETILSAN contains
- The active substance is cetylpyridinium chloride. Each lozenge contains 3 mg of cetylpyridinium chloride.
- The other ingredients are: essence of mint, eucalyptol, tragacanth, rice starch, magnesium stearate, mannitol, sorbitol.
